Description

My installation would be made up of three components:

Hanging mesh panels with digitally printed landscape images on them (approx. 8 x 5 feet). On 2-3 panels, there will be an embroidered figure stitched into the panel using gray yarn. The figure will be in various places and poses within the landscape and will be an anatomical image of a woman.

Hanging fabric panels with digitally printed landscape images on them (approx. 8 x 5 feet). The fabric will be slightly transparent and the fabric will be stitched in a technique called American Smocking which is a system of patterned folding that adds volume to the fabric. The digital images will be printed in a way that the image is splintered into a grid and the pattern of the smocking’s pleats will reassemble the image.

Drawings of migratory birds on vellum in graphite and Flashe paint (approx. 3 x 2 feet).

These translucent panels will be hung from the ceiling perpendicular to each other with rods at the bottom to ensure they are taught. They will be arranged in a casual path so that a viewer could navigate through the gallery space comfortably. The view from the entrance door of the gallery, the view from the street into each of the four windows, and the view while walking through the interior of the space, are each crafted so that the translucent panels overlap. The overlapping of images will layer and blend the feeling of a body within the landscape and the tucking and folding of place.
